As of Wednesday morning 11 May, Hordijk will be known as the Royal Hordijk. A great honour and the crowning glory of our centenary. The Queen’s Commissioner for South Holland, Mr Smit, presented managing director Rik Hennink with the Royal title at 11.00 am.
This took place at the Hordijk in Delft, in the presence of our shareholders, the Supervisory Board and the Mayor of Delft, Marja van Bijsterveldt, among others. On this festive occasion, the King granted us the right to bear this beautiful title.
2022 is a jubilee year for Hordijk: we are 100 years old this year. In 1922 Groeneveld Hordijk founded his carpentry company Hordijk. He specialised in wooden packaging for the horticultural industry. In 1966 – after 44 years of using wood – Hordijk switched to thermoformed plastic packaging. Today, around 500 people work for the Hordijk Group and our production companies. We are an international supplier of innovative packaging, producer of sustainable greenhouse systems and related products for the food & agriculture industry.
Respect, recognition and trust
Rik Hennink, CEO of Hordijk, is proud of the award: “The award of the Royal Predicate is a compliment to all colleagues. The King himself awards the Predicate by Royal Decree. It is a crowning of our anniversary year and means that Hordijk has an excellent reputation in the market as a successful and reliable company. Both nationally and internationally. It also has a deeper meaning: it symbolises the King’s respect, recognition and trust in our company.
Moving towards 100% circularity
Hordijk is always innovating and furthering its sustainability. Previously, we made a switch in materials from wooden to plastic packaging and now we are committed to 100% circularity. Rik Hennink: “We make our packaging solutions optimally recyclable. We produce our greenhouse systems from high-quality material that provides a sustainable solution to the global growth in fresh horticultural products. Now that Hordijk has been around for 100 years, we are looking ahead. As Royal Hordijk, we are facing the future with our continues drive to innovate.”
