Since its inception in 1958, the Gouden Noot packaging innovation competition has become the most competitive packaging competition in the world. With De Gouden Noot, the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre promotes ‘holistic’ innovation in packaged products and packaging.

Solid golden walnut

The competition takes its name from the unique winner’s trophy, which contains a solid gold walnut, a symbol of sustainable, effective and innovative packaging. Winning brings significant global exposure, both ‘online’ and ‘physical’ through leading packaging exhibitions and events, including Interpack 2023 and ALL4PACK Emballage Paris. Participation also gives the company and its employees recognition for all their innovation efforts.

Two-round judging

Judging takes place in two rounds. The jury is independent and its members represent all aspects of packaging. The jury will be chaired by Prof Dr Renee Wever. In the first judging round, on 19 and 20 May 2022, ten finalists will be selected from up to 40 entries. The competition has no sub-categories; all entries will be judged on their overall innovativeness. Non-finalists will receive a report of the judges’ findings on their entry.

In the second jury round on 15 September 2022, the finalists will each have the opportunity to present their entry to the full jury. The jury will then decide which entry will win the gold, silver and bronze awards.
