By using recycled raw materials, we reduce the use of new materials and our carbon footprint. But what exactly is recyclate and when do we refer to it as post-consumer recyclate (PCR)?
- Recyclate is all reused raw materials, so everything except new materials.
- Post-consumer recyclate (PCR) specifically comes from recycled plastic packaging that has already been in circulation.
At Hordijk, we calculate the share of recyclate by subtracting the amount of new raw material from the total amount of raw material in a package.
Because we reuse all the trimmings from our production, we calculate the PCR share in a package by dividing the amount of PCR material by the total material weight, minus the weight of trimmings. Additional requirements apply to packaging that comes into contact with food, as laid down in EU regulation 2022/1616.
