PET is short for polyethylene terephthalate and is a widely used material for food packaging because of its properties.

APET is amorphous PET, or transparent material. Its clarity and strength make it ideal for packaging and presenting (fresh) food. PET’s good barrier to moisture and fats and its low permeability to oxygen and carbon dioxide gas help to extend the shelf life of freshly packaged foods.

Transparent mono material PET packaging is highly recyclable into new food packaging.

rPET stands for recycled PET. The recyclate comes from deposit streams or from sorted household waste. Before rPET is used in food packaging, it is made food-safe.

CPET. Packaging made from APET, rPET or PET cannot be used in a microwave or oven. This is possible with CPET, where the C stands for crystallisation. Crystallisation makes PET less transparent. It can withstand high temperatures up to 240°C. CPET packaging is therefore suitable for microwave and oven applications.

We prefer making PET circular

We want to recycle as much plastic as possible. Preferably circular or tray to tray. In the video we explain how a food tray is recycled into a food tray again. The video was produced in collaboration with Albert Heijn and Umincorp.
